Karen Marie Aagaard Ørsted Andersen (born August 13, 1988), better known as Karen Marie Ørsted or by her stage name , is a Danish singer and songwriter signed to Sony Music Entertainment. Born in Odense, MØ has been compared to electropopartists such as Grimes and Twin Shadow.[1] Besides being an acronym for her middle and last initials, the word  means "maiden" or “virgin" in Danish.[2] Her debut album, No Mythologies to Follow, was released in March 2014.[3]
MØ collaborated with Australian rapper Iggy Azalea on the 2014 single "Beg for It", which peaked at number 27 on the US BillboardHot 100, earning MØ her first entry on the chart.[4] The following year, MØ was featured on Major Lazer and DJ Snake's international hit "Lean On," which peaked highly on international charts, including number 1 in Australia, number 2 in the United Kingdom, and number 4 in the United States.

Career

2007–12: MOR

MØ and her friend Josefine Struckmann Pedersen formed the punk duo MOR in 2007, and released two EPsFisse I Dit Fjæs ("Pu**y in Your Face") and Vanvidstimer("Madness Hours"), in 2009 and 2011, respectively. MOR disbanded on 7 September 2012.[5]

2012–15: No Mythologies to Follow and collaborations

In 2012, MØ began creating a cappella pop songs and began collaborating with producer Ronni Vindahl.[6] On 14 January 2013, MØ released her debut single, "Glass".[7] On 15 March 2013 she released "Pilgrim" with B-side "Maiden".[8] Pilgrim was recognised as P3s Uundgåelige (P3 Unavoidable), a label given to rising artists by Danish radio station DR P3, as it peaked at number eleven on the Danish Singles Chart.[9][10] On 27 March 2013, she performed live on television for the first time at the Danish P3 Guld Awards.[11]
On 7 June 2013, she released the single "Waste of Time".[12] On 18 August 2013, it was confirmed through producer and DJ Avicii's manager Ash Pournouri that MØ had co-written and provided vocals on a track called "Dear Boy" which was later featured on Avicii's debut album, True.[13] On 30 August 2013, she released the single "XXX 88"[14] MØ's first extended play, Bikini Daze, was released on 18 October 2013.[15] In October 2013, she supported AlunaGeorge on UK tour dates.[16] The single "Don't Wanna Dance" debuted on BBC Radio 1 on 16 January 2014 as Zane Lowe's Hottest Record.[17]
MØ's debut studio album, No Mythologies to Follow, was released on 7 March 2014.[18] On the review aggregate site Metacritic, the album has a Metascore of an 77 out of 100 indicating "generally favorable" reviews.[19] Music blog Pretty Much Amazing called the album "complex and euphoric", while The Guardian noted that "what [MØ] lacks in originality, she makes up for with warlike ardour".[20][21]
MØ began touring in Europe and the United States in support of the album, ending in June. On 2 June 2014, she made her US television debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where she performed the songs "Don't Wanna Dance" and "Pilgrim".[22] "Walk This Way" was released on 16 June 2014 as a single from No Mythologies to Follow.[23] On 23 June, MØ announced additional United States and Canadian tour dates beginning in September.[24] In November 2014, she won four awards at the Danish Music Awards: Danish Album of the Year, Danish Solo Artist of the Year, Danish Breakthrough Artist of the Year and Danish Music Video of the Year.[25]
In 2014, MØ was featured on Australian rapper Iggy Azalea's song "Beg for It", which was released as the lead single from Azalea's reissue album, Reclassified.[26] Azalea and MØ performed the song for the first time on Saturday Night Live on 25 October.[27]
MØ also co-wrote the song "All My Love" by Major Lazer, featuring vocals from American singer-songwriter Ariana Grande.[28] MØ co-wrote and provided vocals for another Major Lazer song, "Lean On" with DJ Snake, which was released in March 2015.[29] The single topped the charts in MØ's native Denmark, Australia, Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands and New Zealand, while reaching the top five in several countries, including France, Germany, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States.[30][31]

Harley Edward Streten[1] (born 5 November 1991),[2] better known by his stage name Flume, is an Australian electronic music producer. His debut self-titled album was released on 9 November 2012, which peaked at No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Its lead single, "Holdin On", reached the top 20 on the related ARIA Singles Chart as well as number 4 on Triple J's Hottest 100 Countdown in 2013. The album and single provided Flume with four wins and four nominations at the ARIA Music Awards of 2013.[3][4] Wins included Best Male ArtistBreakthrough Artist – ReleaseBest Dance Release, and Producer of the Year.
On 5 January 2016 Flume shared details of his forthcoming sophomore album, Skin. The first single "Never Be Like You" reached number one in Australia in February 2016.[5]
Flume has remixed the likes of LordeSam SmithArcade Fire and Disclosure.

Career[edit]

Harley Edward Streten was born on 5 November 1991 and grew up on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, where he still resides.[6] He began creating music at about the age of thirteen, with a basic production disc that was packaged in a box of cereal.[7] In 2010, Streten began producing house music under his initials, HEDS.[8] He created two tracks "Flow" and "Fizz", in addition to several remixes.[9]
Streten was discovered and signed in 2011 through an original artists competition managed by the Australian record company Future Classic. He submitted the tracks "Sleepless", "Over You" and "Paper Thin" to win the competition. Nathan McLay, founder of Future Classic and now Flume's manager, assisted with the release of his first EP, titled Sleepless, which contained the three original tracks.[10][11]
Flume's self-titled debut album was released on 9 November 2012 to favorable reviews.[12] The album's production saw Flume collaborating with vocal artists George Maple, Moon Holiday, Jezzabell Doran, Chet Faker, and New York rapper T.Shirt. The album reached number one on the Australian iTunes charts.[7] It debuted on the ARIA Albums Chart at number 2, behind of One Direction's Take Me Home.[13] In December 2012, Flume signed with Mom + Pop Music and announced the North American release of his self-titled debut.[14] The album was released in the US on 21 February 2013 and received strong support from American critics, averaging a score of 73 out of 100 on review aggregate site Metacritic.[15]
On Australia Day 2013, four of Flume's songs (including a remix) were listed on Triple J Hottest 100 for 2012.[16] His album's breakout song "Holdin On" was listed at number four, the highest-charting Australian song.[16][17] Other inclusions were "Sleepless" and his remix of "Hyperparadise" by Hermitude, both in the top 20 (numbers 12 and 18, respectively), and "On Top" at number 67.[16]
Flume's voted songs placed higher on the ARIA Singles Chart. "Holdin On" returned to the top 50 chart in the spot of number 17, its highest-ever placement. His "Hyperparadise" remix also debuted in the top 50 at number 38. "Sleepless" and "On Top" debuted at numbers 53 and 75, respectively.[18] Flume's debut album reached number one on the ARIA Albums Chart.[19]
In February 2013, Flume announced his first national headlining Australian tour, entitled the "Infinity Prism Tour". It occurred during April and May 2013, and according to a later interview, the tour sold 40,000 tickets.[20] In March 2013, Flume was named one of Fuse TV's 30 "Must-See Acts" at the SXSW festival.[21][22]
Flume spent the beginning of 2014 touring internationally, including stops at Lollapalooza in South America and Coachella where he debuted his remix of Lorde's "Tennis Court".
In 2015, Flume released his first original track since his debut album, "Some Minds" featuring vocals from Miike Snow's Andrew Wyatt.
In early January 2016, Flume released a four-and-a-half-minute preview of his second studio album Skin. The following month, second single "Never Be Like You" featuring vocals from Canadian singer Kai reached number one in Australia, making it Flume's first chart-topping song.[5]
